We are searching for Product Design Engineer to join our team located at our headquarters in Lake Forest, IL.

Your Role:

As a Product Design Engineer, you will be responsible for developing new products and processes not currently existing at RCP and helping deliver them to market. You will also research new manufacturing methods and work to increase and improve the manufacturing capabilities and product offerings.  As a key Product Design Engineer you will interface and work side-by-side with Corporate and Plant technical and production team members to evaluate, recommend, and implement improvements and new developments in a timely manner.

You will have the opportunity to:

  • Develop new and innovative products
  • Work closely with the Sales & Marketing team to develop sales tools and promote marketability of new product
  • Conduct continuous design improvements
  • Develop product testing methods and standards 
  • Cost new product including ROI calculations for potential capital expenditures
  • Develop complete 3D CAD models and 2D engineering drawings for products with exacting dimensions and fully functioning features (locks, hinges, etc.) using PTC Creo (Pro-E) software. (equivalent OK)
  • Research and participate in brainstorm events around solving unique customer problems
  • Communicate new ideas visually through sketching and product renderings (Adobe Creative Suite)
  • Develop 2 dimensional product drawings that clearly communicate design intent
  • Relate new ideas via group presentations (PowerPoint) and written communication (email)          
  • Prepare CAD models for rapid prototyping, stereo lithography (SLA), fuse deposition modeling (FDM), and CAM processes
  • Interact with tooling engineering and manufacturing engineering groups to validate product manufacturability, prepare designs for prototyping and commercialization
  • Coordinate prototyping activities and lab scale trials on new consumer products
  • Travel to manufacturing locations to support development and commercialization activities on occasion

We need you to have:

  • BS degree in Engineering, preferably Mechanical, Chemical, or Materials
  • 8+ years of experience in product development
  • Prior experience working with focus groups and consumer studies
  • Excellent capabilities in Microsoft Office

  • Experience commercializing new products in the consumer product goods industry
  • Prior experience leading others in cross-functional teams
