If you are looking to build a strong career, we have an opportunity for you! We are searching for a Research and Development Engineer to join our team located at our facility in Jacksonville, IL.

Your Role:

The Research and Development Engineer will lead in the design, development, and commercialization of new materials. This role will have the opportunity to influence the business by transforming their creative ideas into new products or processes for manufacturing extrusion. The R&D Engineer will enjoy providing materials related technical expertise to the business and also have the opportunity to support and influence product sustainability projects. This role will collaborate with Engineering, Operations, Quality, Regulatory, Marketing, and the business team to deliver new technologies that can be seen at all major retail stores. You will have the opportunity to:

  • Identify and lead projects to support and achieve Marketing Innovation, Material cost saving, and Operational efficiency objectives.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to achieve business objectives.
  • Qualify & commercialize new materials/technologies to improve product quality.
  • Engage with resin & additive suppliers to maintain knowledge of new technologies and identify cost savings opportunities.
  • Support new product development through core activities: Defining product scale up strategies, defining appropriate material formulation/blends, preparing trial plans, guiding technicians in preparation and execution of material trials, providing testing direction to laboratory personnel, applying statistical analysis techniques, using results to provide recommendations to business development teams.
  • Support Operations by providing technical guidance as a subject matter expert.
  • Periodically travel to alternate manufacturing sites to provide technical support (focus is on new product startups).

We need you to have:

  • BS degree in Engineering (Chemical or Polymer preferred). 
  • 1-2 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Solid project management capabilities with the ability to organize and manage multiple projects simultaneously from origin through execution. 
  • Strong written & verbal communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • High degree of accuracy/attention to detail.
  • Ability to travel (up to 20%, majority domestic).
  • Basic understanding of statistical techniques and methods (DOE, SPC, etc). 
  • Proficient in MS Office.

Icing on the cake:

  • Experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with polymers and plastics manufacturing (particularly blown film extrusion).
  • Experience with material physical properties or analytical testing.
  • Experience in Process Engineering including R&D process development and providing support to Manufacturing Operations.
