Your Role:

As a Technical Manager of the Geosystems Business Unit you will be a key member of the global strategy team responsible for leading the unit’s technical, innovative and commercial direction including all geosynthetic/environmental product innovations, new & existing market growth efforts, manufacturing quality, and research initiatives to advance the product offering and profitably grow sales for the business. Lead development, from inception to market delivery of product advancements (nextgen), new product development (core and ancillary), and identify and assist with potential product line acquisitions.

DESCRIPTION OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Key member in the establishment and execution of the GEOSYSTEMS Business Plan tied to Annual Operating P&L objectives.
  • Support Business Development in matters of new market initiatives, research, and technical support to Global Distributor Sales Force and to Presto-Direct Sales efforts.
  • Self-perform market research and product viability evaluations and oversee outsourced in depth market analysis.  Report finding and offer recommendation to Geosystems Director.
  • Lead the business unit in all technical product, testing, specification, and research matters.
  • Conceive, plan and develop product advancements and new products for Geosystems’ core product lines, ancillary products, and new offerings.
  • Create Product Development Roadmap and establish and manage annual R&D budget.
  • Develop business case and potential market impact for new product & research ideas. Participate in writing of technical papers and related marketing materials upon completion of new product delivery to the market.
  • Manage outside service provider (testing, manufacturing, secondary operations) relationships, contracts, deliverables and payments.
  • Work with outside manufacturers to develop product design and manufacturing plans
  • Work with plant R&D team to develop changes to manufacturing processes that increase productivity and reduce scrap and errors
  • Interact with manufacturing team to resolve product non-conformances and determine action for resolution
  • Manage set up of demos and field testing to evaluate existing and future product performance and installation methods
  • Plan and lead product development ideation sessions to solicit new ideas and discuss ongoing product development
  • Offer technical resource assistance and recommend opportunities for product or corporate acquisitions
  • Works with distributor network, marketing team, and Business Development Managers to identify problems and discover new opportunity areas for product development
  • Create quarterly reports to foster inclusion of the manufacturing team and convey importance of quality and how product is used in the field
  • Work with company legal resources to ensure protection of new product intellectual property to safeguard investments and maintain Presto’s position as category leader
  • Conceive, plan, and participate as the technical resource to the marketing team in the creation of product testing and installation videos
  • Create specifications and drawings for use in technical documentation for product sale
  • Create presentations and demonstrate to the team results of testing and product development efforts
  • Represent business unit in matters related to ISO and CE quality certification audits.
  • Oversee both in-house and outsourced testing protocols for product manufacturing.

We need you to have:

  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering or equivalent in related engineering field and demonstrate a high level of knowledge of geosynthetic product application engineering and polymer science.
  • Registered professional engineering license required
  • Experience with ISO and CE certifications with ability to recommend and execute changes to the quality system as well as participate in audits.
  • Experience in a commercial leadership role
  • Experience developing and documenting new material and product test plans
  • Established track record of developing new product from inception to delivery to the market
  • Responsible experience in a manufacturing environment

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Must be able to work independently with limited direction
  • Proficiency in creation of 3D models and drawings in CAD systems (Solidworks, ProE, or other)
  • Ability to innovate and demonstrate entrepreneurial business skills.
  • Required limited international and domestic travel
  • Expertise in design and manufacture with plastics welding, injection molding, thermoforming and sheet extrusion a plus

  • MBA or advanced degree
