We are searching for an Accounts Payable Manager to join our team located at our headquarters in Lake Forest, IL.

Your Role:

The Accounts Payable Manager will manage the Vendor Master, Invoice Processing and Disbursements processes and is accountable for the day-to-day activities ensuring that the department operates smoothly, maintains accurate and complete records. Escalates any issues with the work or schedule to their Manager in a prompt manner.  The Accounts Payable Manager will focus on optimizing department processes to increase accuracy and efficiency and provide strong leadership to the department.

 

DESCRIPTION OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Analyzes the processes to ensure compliance with internal controls and process optimization
  • Manages payables to optimize vendor discounts and other reimbursements
  • Develops departmental policies and procedures to streamline or automate AP processes to minimize late fees and costly errors
  • Identifies and reports any existing or potential issues that may affect relationships with vendors or other parties
  • Establishes performance metrics, monitors individual & team performance providing timely feedback and taking corrective action as necessary
  • Serves as the main point of escalation for issues encountered during vendor invoice/payment processing and the audits of employee expense reports, demonstrating ability to resolve issues independently or escalate to appropriate levels as appropriate
  • Advises staff regarding the handling of non-routine reporting transactions
  • Ensures accurate and timely payment process either weekly, monthly or recurring payments
  • Works to resolve all issues to root cause to avoid repeat errors
  • Responsible for hiring, coaching/counseling, and employee development
  • Provides support for audits and special projects
  • Maintains Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) documentation for reporting functions supervised
  • Serves as subject matter expert for IT upgrades and implementations that impact the Accounts Payable and employee expense reimbursement process
  • Leads department month end close procedures
  • Provides reporting to executive management as requested or required
  • Ensures positive vendor relations and communication

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

  • BS in Accounting, Finance, Business or related field

Experience:

  • 7 + years progressive experience with an excellent understanding of the entire A/P process
  • Prior team management experience combined with a proven track record of developing, coaching, and mentoring an Accounts Payable team

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Proficient in MS Office (Familiarity with advanced formulas in MS Excel)
  • Proficient in SAP
  • Skilled with Concur or similar travel and expense software
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Self-motivated and self-managed – able to think independently, creatively, and opportunistically
  • Strong supervisory and interpersonal skills
  • High attention to detail
  • Able to work calmly under pressure in a deadline driven environment
  • Team oriented

We need you to have:

  • BA/BS degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field
  • 7+ years progressive experience with an excellent understanding of the entire AP process
  • Prior team management experience
  • Excellent capabilities in Microsoft Office, including Excel
  • Experience with SAP and Oracle

Icing on the cake:

  • MBA or another advanced degree
  • Prior experience in the Consumer Product Goods industry
