Then we have an opportunity for you! We currently have an opportunity for a Senior Innovation Engineer located at our headquarters in Lake Forest, IL.

Your Role:

This role will focus on development and delivery of long-term innovation of consumer products for the waste and storage business unit. It will focus on early innovation through the technical feasibility development stage and will report to the Sr. Products Innovation Manager. This role will evaluate relevant technologies and will drive development of new innovative product solutions leveraging both new material and new equipment solutions as needed. A successful Innovation Engineer will collaborate with multiple cross-functional team members  across all levels of the organization including RDE, Operations, Marketing, Innovation, Finance, Legal and Procurement. This role will assist the RDE team by driving new manufacturing capabilities within the Hefty BU Manufacturing sites  as well as external co-manufacturers to deliver finished products. We embrace and accept individual experiences and backgrounds to achieve a diverse and inclusive workplace. 

You will have the opportunity to:

  • Seek out and evaluate new technologies in related industries. Build strong partnerships with existing and new raw material & technology suppliers. Leverage & apply technologies to develop new innovation products for the waste and storage business. Prepare trial plans and coordinate trial execution to demonstrate technical feasibility of new technologies (current manufacturing and/or supplier sites). Guide product optimization work based on consumer feedback and to achieve cost and manufacturing efficiency targets.
  • Build strong partnerships with new & existing equipment suppliers. Expand current manufacturing capabilities to deliver new products/new product features within quality, efficiency and cost parameters.
  • Travel to material & equipment suppliers as well as Hefty manufacturing sites up to 50% (majority within USA).
  • Evaluate new and active material and technology patents and provide subject matter guidance on capabilities within the industry
  • Mine trade show presentations/publications for new technology opportunities; Evaluate for fit to the portfolio and drive trial execution to demonstrate technical feasibility.
  • Work with Marketing to translate new technologies into products that fit consumer needs and new white spaces; Collaborate to maintain a full & strategic innovation pipeline. Coordinate sample generation for consumer test execution.
  • Periodically prepare strategic project updates & recommendations for senior leadership. Maintain project timeline documentation.

We need you to have:

  • BS Engineering – Chemical or Mechanical
  • 8-10 years+ of professional progressive experience in R&D, manufacturing or engineering design roles with some leadership responsibilities.

Icing on the cake:

  • MBA or other advanced degree a plus.
  • Experience within the plastics industry (materials or equipment manufacturers) or related fields a plus.
