We are currently searching for a Research and Development Engineering Manager to join our team located in Jacksonville, IL.

Your Role:

As a Research and Development Engineering Manager, you will lead a team in design, development, and commercialization of machine, process and product changes for Reynolds waste bags working closely with marketing, operations and scheduling. You will also be responsible for finding and resolving issues as well as supervising engineering technicians.

You will have the opportunity to:

  • Lead the development and implementation of solutions to improve the cost and quality of our products.
  • Start-up/commercialization of new processes within the waste bag value stream.
  • Ability to troubleshoot mechanical or electrical equipment and/or provide technical leadership to resolve such issues.
  • Directly manage engineers and technicians at our manufacturing locations (Jacksonville, IL; Temple, TX & Tamaqua, PA).
  • Build an effective team and maintain effective workforce through hiring, training, coaching and disciplinary actions.
  • Develop, write, implement, submit and/or present various technical reviews, reports, or capital projects in support of cost reduction, new product, quality, process improvement and safety initiatives.
  • Directly and manage capital projects related to product improvements and cost reduction.
  • In partnership with Finance, develop new product cost estimates.
  • Responsible for developing, implementing and maintaining continuous improvement processes.
  • Communicate with at all levels of organization, both internal and external utilizing Microsoft Office Suite.

We need you to have:

  • BS in Engineering, Mechanical, Chemical or Electrical, preferred
  • 10+ years, related experience, including supervisory
  • Requires travel to plants and other locations (average 25%)
  • Knowledge of bag conversion processes, required 
  • Basic understanding or use of Lean manufacturing techniques and methods
  • Demonstrated knowledge of statistical methods and process improvement techniques, DOE, SPC, etc.

Icing on the cake:

  • Familiarity with physical and analytical test methods for polymer films and resin, desirable
  • Understanding of 3D drawing software, solid modeling, or heat transfer modeling
